I haven't done a meme/quiz thingy in ages. This one looks interesting, and took some thinking.
Although, after all the questions, the results seem to have been based on the first 2 colors I chose. However, it's pretty accurate.
I've always had a hard time deciding what I want to do on a vacation, and it was interesting how quickly I went for strolling through unique shops and antique stores. Hmmmm. Still getting to know myself, obviously. Listening to a light rain on a country cottage roof was a no-brainer for another question. My maternal grandmother was not necessarily kind to me, but her house had a tin roof. I loved listening to the rain. A country cottage would have a different kind of roof, but it would still be a pleasantly relaxing time.
Like I said, it took some thinking, and I was wondering how you'd answer this. These were my options for the last question, which was something like, "What words would your friends use to describe you?"
1. Trustworthy and calm, a good communicator
2. Peaceful, helpful and reassuring
3. Welcoming, optimistic and spontaneous
4. Communicative and creative, a connoisseur
5. Sensitive, thoughtful and compassionate
6. Cheerful, enthusiastic and full of energy
7. Intuitive, curious and passionate
8. Honest, sincere and supportive
9. Sophisticated and straightforward, a purist
I almost went for #3, until I saw the "optimistic" there in the middle. I ended up picking #8, but I'm curious to see what people really think. Notice that there aren't any that are really negative, so please be honest.

Seen here & there, a list of 10 things to (as
fullfaun would put it) "put out in the universe." It's just for fun, but you never know when a wealthy recluse will come across my LJ and want to buy me a present.
Seriously, this is all in fun. It's Thanksgiving, and I'm thankful for much. Just doing a little dreaming.
- Flickr Pro Account - I guess I've filled up all my space. My older pictures are still on Flickr, but not accessible - even by me - until I upgrade. (I can still add new pics - as each new one is added, an older one becomes hidden.)
- Could always use more paid time on LJ
- Colonial House or Manor House DVD
- Book: Last Minute Fabric Gifts
- Book: In Stitches (Amy Butler)
- Book: Slob in the Kitchen (Karen Duffy)
- New glasses (both pair are broken now)
- Med. Sterling Hoop Earrings with clasp (post on hinge, folds down into clasp)
- Portable Ott Light
- Since I'm asking the universe for stuff, I may as well add an embroidery machine

Is it possible that the migraine is gone? 2 whole, freaking days later? Not getting my hopes up, but I think it's possible. The meds my doctor gave me SUCK. What good is a migraine medicine if it only takes about a point off the pain scale, but leaves you unable to function (and still in considerable pain)?
Of course it's too late to go to the hospital now, but I have tomorrow off, so I'll make up for it (presuming I wake up w/o another darn headache).
And, for the heck of it, a meme (behind the cut)

Take a look at your Friends List. List up to 10 things you want to say to 10 different LJ friends. Do not state who these people are. Tag five people.
How blessed do I feel that I had a difficult time picking only 10? There is no particilar order, either to real name or user name, but it might be very easy for some folks to figure out that I'm talking about them. That's okay - it wasn't in the rules.
I'm supposed to tag people. I'll just say that if this sounds like fun, do it, but don't feel obligated.

- I am so very proud of you! You are one of the most important people in my life, and I hope you never doubt it. Thank you for picking a new user name that is easier to type.
- I think it's cool that after all this time we could just pick up and hang out like no time had passed at all. And that we don't have to be velcro'd at the hip. Crossing fingers that the job situation improves soon.
- It's been too long! I've missed you terribly, but hopefully it won't get to that point again. I love that you - of all people - have tried to loan me garb. I love our matching tats and, now, hats!
- Since it's your "fault" that I have this job, it only makes sense that you get the first ranting phone call! ;-) I love how accepting you are of me, and how you cheer me up. What you said about why I didn't have children of my own (so I could be there for Sarah) really touched me. I think you're right, even if I wasn't there enough.
- You are my biggest cheerleader, one of my dearest friends, and my spiritual sister. I love how you strive to make others around you happy. You're a good mom, too - to the kids and the kitten.
- Five years? We may not have seen eye-to-eye the entire time, but you forced me out of my shell a little at a time, and I'm grateful. I miss you. I'm seriously glad you're making good choices and I don't have to worry about you like I did, once upon a time.
- I love how you describe what makes you happy. It reminds me to take a closer look at the little things around me. Oh, and the little "lessons learned" - wonderful!
- You are so generous to your friends - old and new - that I hope you are being nice to yourself too!
- I'm proud of you for trying something new!
- Whenever you refer to your SO, you start with "My Precious (or Darling)..." It's such a dear thing to do.
I'm supposed to tag people. I'll just say that if this sounds like fun, do it, but don't feel obligated.
Where Were You When (meme, swiped from
john_broadfoot)
Where were you when...
1) John F. Kennedy was shot? (11/22/1963)
My parents were about to meet
2) Mt. St. Helens exploded? (5/18/1980)
Specifically, I have no idea. In general, I was in Michigan, in the 9th grade. (Hey Broadfoot! Are we that close in age?) I had a great-aunt and uncle that lived in Washington. They brought a little glass jar of ash for me.
3) The Challenger exploded? (1/28/1986)
Driving to class. I kept going, and we all just sat in the commons room and watched it over & over again. Some dipshit came in during a part where it was just starting to launch and he joked: "It's going to explode!" Really just bad timing, but I bet he still feels like an ass.
4) The 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco? (10/07/1989)
Finally finishing college. But I don't know what I was doing.
5) The Berlin Wall Fell? (11/07/1989)
Same as the above. I was working for a small automotive art publishing company and remember having gotten a short-term pen-pal in East Germany through that job. I was just thrilled for him.
6) The Gulf War began? (01/16/1991)
Yikes! I don't remember.
7) OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco? (06/17/1994)
I don't think I was home watching it, or if I was, not much of it.
8) The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed? (04/19/1995)
At work.
9) Princess Di was killed? (08/31/1997)
I don't remember.
10) Bush was first announced president? (11/07/2000)
Nowhere near the TV.
11) Terrorists destroyed the WTC? (09/11/2001)
This one I remember distinctly. I was unemployed, and getting ready to start the day of job-hunting. I sat down to watch some morning news... and didn't get off the couch for hours. The next day, I went to the Red Cross and started working there until I found a full-time job.
12) Columbia disintegrated during re-entry over Texas? (02/01/2003)
Another one I don't remember for sure.
13) The Madrid trains were attacked? (03/11/2004)
Heard about it later on the news.

| Stash View 1 Back row: in bowl, just leftover balls of yarn; in purple bag, half of the super cheap ($2.50) but nice acrylic for the kids; in basket, my evening knitting - niece's sweater in Rowan All Seasons Cotton, with a 10-pack underneath. Next row: 6 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in a pretty smoky blue; a skein of llama yarn called Margarita from Fun with Yarn, a ball of merino yarn, also from Fun with Yarn; 2 skeins of Handpaint Originals in "Limelight" from my Fiber Godmother, next to a big honkin' hank of "Ottawa" yarn from Handmaiden (also a gift from my Fiber Godmother). The gift theme is going to continue... with 5 balls of (I think) green silk (pic is washed out) and 3 or 4 balls of yummy alpaca, both from my SIL, Tracey. (Found via Scout's Knitted Swag): Bev asks everyone to post their favorite painting (link or pic) and then comment in her blog. Without further ado...
| My Favorite Painting The Nutgatherers - Les Noisettes 1882 William Adolphe Bouguereau It makes sense that my favorite painting for as long as I can remember is one I can technically visit whenever I want. I don't make it down to Detroit very often, but when I get to the DIA, one of the first things I have to do is go visit "my" painting. I used to have a print of it, but it came from an ex, so it's gone along with any other reminders. I would love one of their framed prints. Someday! In the meantime, I can visit it online anytime. This is another favorite: "The Wedding Dance." I actually bought a lovely framed version of it as a wedding gift for a friend, but its a favorite of mine too. I love seeing it hang in her kitchen when I visit. |

And it is, so far! Good sleep, good blood sugar levels, good email waiting for me when I got up. I've pretty much determined that the fatigue is linked to my interesting new med (more on that another time) and that some vitamins and caffeine in the AM will help. I ordered a tea press and some sample packs from Stash (and Adiago), so I will be in fine shape in a week or so!
(Okay, at the moment, John is yelling at Charlie, so it's not such a beautiful morning, but it will pass.)
Last night, we met up with my goddaughter, for some tea and coffee drinks and to meet her new boyfriend. I gave her the new messenger bag I made for her (no pics), filled with most of the movies I promised her (can't believe I forgot the Hitchcock flicks) and she immediately requested a backpack. Well, she is going to college in the fall, so I will comply. Probably. I will at least attempt one. I love seeing her, and catching up. She had her Senior pics taken on Thursday, & I've put in my order for an 8x10. She graduates June 13th, the day after John's birthday. Guess where I'll be?!
Little meme action:

Which Princess Bride Character are You?
this quiz was made by mysti
Off for some target practice and breakfast (in reverse order) and then maybe a nap. Tonight, nephew N's 4th birthday party. I made him another 18" sq. Spiderman silky, this time with a Spiderman patch on the flannel side & a mini 9" pocket-size silky. They're packed in a mid-sized Spiderman lunchbox, with a Spiderman head antenna topper added for whimsy, wrapped in Spiderman paper and tagged with a home-made Spiderman tag. Can you guess what N's most favorite thing in the world is?
Oh, just a reminder: I'll be drawing the winners for the Interim House contest one week from today! I've heard from several more people, and am very excited about what's either headed to IH, or has already arrived.

First off, the results of my "Personal DNA" test. It says I'm a Benevolent Dictator Architect. It's not 100%, which is why I'm just posting the link. I need to take the test again and think harder about my answers. Namely: I do not love crowds. In fact, I pretty much hate them. So, back to the drawing board.
Second, and more fun, JenLa's brand new "Auntie Meme". It's a knit-blog scavenger hunt! Rules here.
1. A blog which you think people have not discovered.
Besides mine? Seriously, I enjoy reading the "Knitting Ladies" blog -- which chronicles the efforts of the residents and volunteers at Interim House (my pet charity (I'm having a contest!)).
2. A blog whose author lives close to you physically. Just get as close as you can, it’s all relative.
It would be easy, since
saltnlt552 lives a block away, but she doesn't blog about knitting. Her LJ pretty much exists so she can read mine. So... The closest knitblogger I know is my SIL, T, at Extreme Adventures in Knitting and Motherhood . In today's post, she is pictured wearing a tiara. 'nuf said.
3. An unusual or weird animal picture.
Cat Guarding Yarn, seen today on The Knitist.
4. An entry that made you laugh and got you strange looks from family or co-workers.
Weenies (Yarn Harlot + DPNS on an airplane)
Plus, a shout-out to Crazy Aunt Purl - a non-knitting friend is now a regular reader, and even thanked me for putting her on to the blog!
5. An idea you wish you’d thought of.
Cakeyvoice's Knit Zombies, especially Bub & his doctor friend.
6. Something you’d like to knit.
See #5. Hubby would love it! I also have patterns for a knit Cthulu and an FSM.
7. A picture of something you consider beautiful
The Forsythias on Nessie Noodle Knits' "F" entry (I love Forsythias!)
8. A blog whose author you’d like to one day meet in person
I think I might bore her to death, but I gotta say Rebecca (ETA: Fixed! No, Really!!)
9. A blog of someone you have already met in person.
Aerial Knitter, who was my spoiler-pal in SP6.
Now... I spent pretty much the entire day on the phone and had to say "I don't CARE, just make it work" too many times. I'm going to take a hot bath and go to bed.

Here's a book meme, which I'm required to take - as both a bookworm and holder of an English Literature degree. It confuses me, though. There are some classics, mixed in with new pop culture favorites. I have to wonder who wrote this list.
Seeing as how I went to a Baptist high school, I didn't read a lot of the typically required high school reading. And since most high schoolers read these books, they aren't usually on the curriculum for college. I did read Salinger, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, etc., just not these works.
Meme instructions: Look at the list of books below. Bold the ones you've read, italicize the ones you might read, cross out the ones you won't, underline the ones on your book shelf, and place parentheses around the ones you've never even heard of.
I'm having extra fun and marking the ones I've seen movie versions of in red (not part of the original meme).
